The 355th Force Support Squadron offers a service to help D-M Airmen and families cut down costly vehicle repairs.

The Auto Hobby Shop here offers technical services, auto towing, tune-ups and several of other services at a lower price than local repair shops. The shop offers 13 indoor maintenance lift stalls and five regular stalls, as well as an array of specialized automotive tools, car wash and vacuum center and a paint booth.

"The difference about this place and another repair shops is that we don't cost that much and we will show you how to fix it yourself," said Thomas Strong, 355th FSS Auto Hobby Shop manager.

Car repairs can be very expensive, but learning yourself or teaching one's child is priceless.

"This place allows me the opportunity to teach my son different things about cars, but more importantly we get to spend some quality family time as well," said Steve Nichols, Auto Hobby Shop customer.

To use the facility, a hobbyist must check in at the tool crib and a staff member will assign a bay according to the vehicle type and the work that is being performed. All bays are a first-come-first-serve basis and the bay rentals are $6.50 an hour with a lift and $4.50 without.

The Auto Hobby Shop is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Strong says the best times to take advantage of the services they provide are Wednesdays and Thursday mornings.
