DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz., - --  A base-wide Green Machine will take place Feb. 18-21.

Green Machine is a project that allows the 355th Civil Engineer Squadron to focus efforts on trimming trees and picking up debris from facility managers around the base.

An e-mail notification from CE was sent to all facility managers with the information needed to prepare their squadrons for the Green Machine.

"Each facility manager is responsible for up to 100 ft from their building of landscaping keep up, that includes weed pulling, trim trees and anything else they see that is needed," said Tech. Sgt. Christopher Roberson, 355th CES NCOIC of Airfield Maintenance. "Everything outside of that CE takes care of. We no longer have a tree trimming contract, we only have a grass cutting one now."

Facility managers can borrow any landscaping equipment needed from the self-help counter at the customer service section of CE.

Two dump truck crews will be picking up bags of trash from each building around the base, while two common area crews will be maintaining places like Bama Park and the baseball fields. The man power for the common area crews comes from CE.

"Having facility managers helps out a lot," Roberson said. "We don't have enough manning to do the whole base, so making this a whole base effort makes a tremendous difference."

During Green Machine, units will be trimming trees, disposing of dead plants, pulling weeds and more landscaping activities.

"CE appreciates the help," Roberson said. "Last year we picked up 200 tons from the facility managers during the Green Machine alone. It saved us a lot of trouble, because we did it right before monsoon season."

After each unit finishes their part of Green Machine, the facility manager calls the CE customer service desk to notify CE that their debris is ready for pick up.
