Free Tax services with VITA Published Jan. 31, 2014 By Senior Airmen Camilla Elizeu 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance tax center on D-M is now open and taking reservations for Active Duty personnel and their eligible dependents. Retirees can begin scheduling appointments on Feb. 10. "VITA is free for everyone and a great way to save money," said Capt. Amy Sfara, 355th Fighter Wing Legal Office judge advocate general. "The Air Force provides the service for everyone with a military identification card, whether active, retired or dependent." The VITA office will be open on certain Saturdays to accommodate Airmen's busy schedule. Those days are: February 1, 8, 15, March 1 and April 5. "The VITA program was created by the IRS for low income families," Sfara said. "But the Air Force doesn't put a cap on it, if you have an ID card you are all set. We are not going to turn you away if you make a certain amount." Those who plan on having their taxes prepared by the VITA office should bring the following items with them: · A military ID card · Social Security card for themselves, spouse and all dependents · All tax statement forms · All appropriate expense information For a faster refund by direct deposit, Sfara suggests bringing proof of bank routing and account numbers, such as a check book. The VITA office is located on the corner of Craycroft and Ironwood, in building 3210. Call 228-3489 to schedule an appointment.
