The Article 137 briefing originates from the Uniform Code of Military Justice. It outlines specific articles within the UCMJ that must be explained to enlisted members at certain times during their career. If you are an enlisted member of the Armed Forces then this briefing will apply to you. Article 137 states these articles must be explained upon entry to active duty, after a member has completed six months of service, and at EVERY re-enlistment.

Your local legal office has been given the responsibility of giving this briefing and tracking who and when members receive it. They do this by partnering with the re-enlistment section of FSS to determine who has re-enlisted, and with First Sergeants and supervisors to ensure attendance of members. For members that have re-enlisted and then immediately deploy or PCS, it is still up to the legal office to make sure everyone receives the briefing in a timely manner.

Here at Davis-Monthan the Article 137 Briefing is held the third Tuesday of each month in Building 2300 (355th Wing Headquarters Building), in the Equal Opportunity Classroom from 1400-1500. If you are approaching your reenlistment window or have recently reenlisted and have not received the Article 137 Briefing please contact the legal office at 228-4550.
