D-M soars to higher heights

DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. --  More than 600 residents at Davis-Monthan enjoyed the 7th Annual Soaring Heights National Night Out, Oct. 1, 2013.

National Night Out, which has been a part of the D-M community for 30 years, is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and also helps generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts.

"Our residents live in environments that (are) uniquely safe," said Carolyn Decker, Director of Property Management. "However this event gives our residents the opportunity to become more familiar and comfortable with safety providers in their community."

Organizations such as the 48th Rescue Squadron, spoke about how they would react in a real-life situation and the 355th Security Forces Squadron, who highlighted their military working dog department, which drew a crowd.

"My children and I enjoyed the activities and seeing all the people from our community," said Emily Ruiz, Soaring Heights resident.

All of the event's valuable information was "packaged-up" in a fun, carnival-like atmosphere which made the learning more enjoyable.

"The event was a terrific partnership between the base and Soaring Heights," said Amara Comeau, Marketing and Communications Manager.
