Davis-Monthan Air Force Ball 2013 Published Aug. 20, 2013 By Senior Airman Timothy Moore 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The 2013 D-M Air Force Ball is scheduled to be held at Loews Ventana Canyon in Tucson, Ariz., Sept. 21, at 6 p.m. The ball is held in celebration of the birthday of the U.S. Air Force, and this year's theme at D-M is "Built on Tradition, Growth Through Innovation." "We are working on historical displays," said Capt. Michelle Mahar, D-M Air Force Ball Committee co-chair. "Our decoration committee has been working with the historian to get some really awesome pictures of D-M, the planes that have been flown here and what D-M looked like." The committee also plans to put together a video to showcase the history and innovations of D-M, to include improvements to the A-10 Thunderbolt II. "An example of innovation would be the A-10 upgrade that they did to change the A-10 from a clear-weather to an all-weather aircraft," Mahar said. The ball not only focuses on the history of D-M, but also on creating an ambience for socializing. "It's a great opportunity to dress up, mingle and enjoy each other's company," said Master Sgt. David Sweet, D-M Air Force Ball Committee co-chair. Airmen Against Drunk Driving volunteers will be in attendance providing a safe rides home for all whose initial plans fall through. If patrons choose, Loews Ventana Canyon is offering a limited number of discounted rooms. The committee has already planned and held several fundraising events to help fund the ball. It also has plans for additional fundraising measures, including the sale of tickets.
