This year, April 8-12 is designated as “America Saves Week,” during which the Military & Family Readiness Center is taking the opportunity to encourage service members and their families to make financial goals.

The America Saves campaign targets populations with unique financial savings needs. With frequent mobility due to permanent changes of station and deployments, service members and their families fit into this category. As such, the Military Saves campaign was designed to focus on specific financial needs and empower military families to become better savers and build wealth.

America Saves’ vision is for all Americans to have an account in which they save automatically and have at least $500 on hand to meet unexpected expenses.

The M&FRC has several financial experts to help service members achieve financial goals and work towards financial freedom. They are available to assist with budgeting, savings and investing, understanding credit reports, navigating identity theft, understanding insurance, and a variety of other topics. They work with individuals to help them build a solid financial foundation and achieve financial stability.

Providing financial education to the military community is the No. 1 priority of financial counselors at the M&FRC. This priority falls in line with America Saves Campaign values. An informed saver is an empowered saver, and an empowered saver can make the best decisions for themselves and their families.

Every individual can save something, even from the smallest of incomes. Service members can start an allotment, as low as $25 a month, to build their emergency savings and ensure they’re ready in the event of an emergency.

The M&FRC will be hosting several events during America Saves Week, including a “Meet and Greet” on April 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Exchange. Come out and meet M&FRC’s financial counselors and partners. Pledge to save and be entered into a drawing for a $100 Commissary gift card and other prizes. A car buying class will be hosted on April 9 at 2 p.m., as well as a Thrift Savings Plan Millionaire Class on April 11 at 9 a.m. at the M&FRC. Each class attended earns you additional entries into the week’s drawings.
