D-M senior leaders view solar car display

DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. - Sean Martinez, University of Arizona graduate student in Systems Engineering, explains the U of A's solar car to Col. John Cherrey, 355th Fighter Wing commander, and 2nd Lt. Steven Meyer, 355th Civil Engineer Squadron officer in charge of operations support, Oct. 22 here. Mr. Martinez explained how the car took 10 months and roughly 400 "space grade" solar cells to build. It was built by U of A students as a project for an efficiency race. The race was not about speed, but about how efficient the car was with energy savings. The team unofficially came in second place. The team was disqualified from official rankings due to the vehicle being overweight. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Christopher Campbell)
