DM Airman throws pitch
Tech. Sgt. Israel Del Toro (left) visits with Chicago White Sox First Base Coach Harold Baines during a spring training workout March 7 at Tucson Electric Park. Del Toro, a life-long Sox' fan and Chicago native, was invited to the team's camp to meet players and throw out the ceremonial first pitch before their game with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The baseball excursion followed a speaking engagement at Davis-Monthan, where "DT" discussed his recovery from injuries sustained from an improvised explosive device blast in Afghanistan in 2005. After sustaining third-degree burns over 80 percent of his body and 95 surgeries, DT is still fighting to recover, and to stay on active duty in the Air Force. As a tactical air control party, or TACP, DT worked with the A-10 community throughout his career, including ealier in 2005, when he was a trainer at Osan Air Base, Korea. There he served with 355th Vice Commander Col. Bruce McClintock and his 25th Fighter Squadron. (USAF photo by Master Sgt. Jim Fisher)
