Commissary Scanning IDs

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Brandon Jones, 355th Communications Squadron, begins his commissary purchase by scanning his Department of Defense identification card at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., Dec. 13, 2013. The scanner only collects the customer’s identification card number, but is later cross-referenced with the Defense Manpower Data Center’s Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System data, allowing each commissary to provide products and services directly related to its specific demographics.
