‘Heroes Day’ open house for special needs citizens Published April 3, 2012 By 040412 DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE, Ariz. -- More than 500 local people with disabilities or special will be brought to the flight line Friday, April 13 - the day before D-M's open house begins to watch the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds practice their routine. The event, dubbed "Heroes Day," was organized to accommodate members of the local community who would enjoy the open house demonstrations but might not be physically able to deal with the extensive walking and huge crowds. "This event is an extension of what our uniform represents; unity and helping people. 'Heroes day' is our way of giving back to special-needs individuals and their families who may not have been able to come out over the weekend," said Staff Sgt. Lindsey Cooper. Media members are invited to cover the event from start to finish, including interview opportunities with event organizers and attendees following the Thunderbirds' practice performance. Media interested in attending the announcement MUST RSVP to the 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office at 228-3406 no later than 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 9. Media who will attend are required to provide date of birth, social security number, and driver license number as part of the new Department of Defense base access procedures. Showtime at the Craycroft Gate Visitors' Center will be noon Friday, April 13.
