D-M selects proposed charter school to open middle school on base

DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. --  Davis-Monthan leadership selected a provider last week to open a proposed charter middle school on base in August 2009.

A selection team reviewed all submitted proposals and selected Sonoran Science Academy-Tucson, which is owned and operated by Daisy Education Corporation. The school will be housed in the former Lowell H. Smith Elementary School on base if Air Force higher headquarters concurs with the planned lease for the property. If approved, the school will be granted a 10-year lease on the building, with a mutual option to renew annually for a total lease period not to exceed 15 years.
