Base and Pima County officials, to include members from the Tucson fire and police departments, will be holding exercise Operation Sweat Socks at 9 a.m. Nov. 20 here to evaluate player actions against current response plans and capabilities for a terrorist incident response.
In the exercise scenario, a terrorist will hold people hostage inside a building on Davis-Monthan. The exercise participants, including medical, bomb squad, fire department and police department personnel, will then initiate action to resolve the situation.

Exercise play is scheduled for seven to eight hours or until the exercise director and senior controller determine that the exercise objectives have been met at each venue.

Operation Sweat Socks is a full-scale exercise designed to establish a learning environment for players to practice emergency response plans, policies and procedures as they pertain to a terrorism-initiated event. An FSE is a complex event that requires detailed planning. To conduct an effective exercise, subject-matter experts and local representatives from numerous agencies have taken part in the planning process and will participate in the exercise conduct and evaluation.

Media interested in covering this event should contact the 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office at 228-4291. If interested, tentatively plan to arrive at the Craycroft Gate Visitors' Center at 8:30 a.m.
