D-M hosts free air show for Arizona Published March 4, 2007 By 020207 Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz. -- Davis-Monthan Air Force Base will open its gates to the public March 17 and 18 for the Aerospace & Arizona Days 2007 Air Show. The free air show will begin at 9:30 a.m., and gates will open at 9 a.m. This air show's theme is "Davis-Monthan and Tucson: 80 Years of Airpower for America!" The 355th Wing Commander, Col. Kent Laughbaum explains, "This is an important year for the Airmen at Davis-Monthan. Not only is it the 60th anniversary of the Air Force, but it is also the 80th anniversary of D-M's official foundation in Tucson." The two-day air show features military and civilian aerial demonstration and static-display aircraft from across the United States. Scheduled performances will feature: the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, D-M's own A-10 Demonstration Team, Air Force Reserve Aerobatic Pilot Ed Hamill, Tim Weber, Greg Poe, Kirby Chambliss, the Tuskegee Airmen's "Double Vee," and D-M Combat Search and Rescue demonstrations. Members of the Tucson Police Department, Fire Department, Rescue Services, Pima County Sheriff's Department, and the U.S. Border Patrol will participate in the air show opening ceremonies and offer ground displays. "We hope to see our friends and fellow citizens from the community in large numbers," said Colonel Laughbaum. "We feel privileged to live in Tucson while serving America.
