D-M youth earns Congressional Award Published Jan. 11, 2008 By 011108 DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- Thomas Oravetz, the 16-year-old son of Ms. Marge Oravetz of Tucson, will receive a Congressional Award here Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Mirage Officers' Club. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, U.S. representative for District 8 in Arizona, will present Oravetz with a gold medal in recognition of his achievements in voluntary community service, personal development, expedition and physical fitness. Oravetz is the first person at D-M in more than five years to receive one of these medals. The Congressional Award is a partnership between Congress and the private sector to promote and recognize achievement, initiative, and service in America's youth. Oravetz earned the award by volunteering more than 800 hours at his church, the Boy Scouts, and the D-M youth center as a gymnastics instructor. Oravetz has already received the bronze and silver congressional medals and is one of only two youths from D-M who have received the highest level of the congressional award. The ceremony will be followed by a private reception in the club's Santa Rita Room. For more information, contact Wayne Parson, D-M Youth Programs Director, at 228-8844.
