Severe winds and heavy rain caused damage to several buildings across the base as well as base housing during the monsoon July 13.

There were no injuries reported due to this severe weather event and negligible operational aircraft damage. Flying operations commenced as normal Monday afternoon.

The base lost power around 7 p.m. Sunday night. The Civil Engineer Squadron worked to repair lines and fallen poles and restored power to all but three facilities on base by Monday afternoon.

The 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group also sustained damage due to high winds recorded at, and possibly exceeding, 65 miles per hour. A lightweight F-16 fighter aircraft in Type 1000 storage, having undergone an engine removal, flipped onto another F-16. The steel cable tie-downs used to secure the aircraft to the desert floor snapped as a result of the gusting winds associated to the storm.

No cost assessment of the damage on base or within 309th AMARG has been made at this time.

A photo of the F-16s and a photo of the cleanup process on base are attached to this release. Additional photos of the cleanup will be posted to the D-M Facebook page.
