ROTC Career Day gives glimpse of officer duties

TUCSON, Ariz. --  Officers from a wide variety of career fields could be found at the University of Arizona talking up their trade to Air Force ROTC cadets during a Career Fair held on campus Nov. 6.

Students stood outside waiting for the doors to open at 6:30 a.m. Officers were seated behind tables which had their duty titles in layman's terms on the front. Cadets picked a career that interested them and spent some time talking with an expert in the field.

"All of these cadets are at the point where they need to make a decision about the career they would like to pursue when they graduate," said David Forsythe, University of Arizona ROTC cadet and organizer of the Career Day. "An event like this allows them to have a concentrated experience with different jobs and will help them choose the path that's right for them."

Cadet Forsythe is no stranger to the military. Prior to his time in the ROTC, he was an enlisted Airman in the security forces career field at Moody AFB, Ga.

The Career Day was attended by more than 90 cadets.

"Davis-Monthan is in a unique position to provide a wide variety of career insight to the cadets at the UofA because of the many missions we support, and the close proximity of the base to the university," said 1st Lt. Susan Harrington, 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs deputy chief, and point of contact for Career Day. "A number of these students are at a point in their education where they have to choose which direction they'd like to pursue; and it's nice to know we can assist them in taking that next step."
More than 15 Air Force specialty codes, such as pararescue and weather, were represented at the Career Day. All of the commissioned representatives volunteered to participate in the event.
