DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- 355th Wing leadership led from the front as they completed a diagnostic Physical Fitness Risk Assessment (PFRA) alongside Airmen, setting the standard for implementation of the Department of the Air Force’s updated fitness program April 15, 2026.
The PFRA, outlined in the updated Air Force Instruction, focuses on assessing an Airman’s overall fitness risk through a combination of aerobic and muscular components, reinforcing a more holistic approach to readiness. The new standard includes expanding the run from 1.5 miles to 2 miles and increasing repetition requirements for pushups and situps compared to the previous model.
By participating alongside Airmen from multiple Air Force specialty codes, U.S. Air Force Col. Jose Cabrera, 355th Wing commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Kelvin Hatcher, 355th Wing command chief, demonstrated accountability and commitment to the new standards while increasing awareness and understanding across the formation.
This leader-led effort highlights how Airmen at Davis-Monthan are building a warrior ethos and preparing to operate as warfighters, ensuring they are physically and mentally ready to meet the demands of the mission in contested environments–a priority at every level of the Air Force.
“Your individual fitness is a promise to yourself and your team,” wrote Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force David Wolfe recently in his “Why” series addressed to all Airmen. “It’s the unspoken trust that instills confidence in your competence and says you’re not just ready–you’re lethal. It’s not always easy, fun or convenient, but the dividends it pays, for you and your teammates, are immense.”
