Looking for a new way to enjoy Tucson? Mountain biking is a great way to explore the local area as well as a good workout. Outdoor Recreation offers bikes to rent and occasionally teaches a mountain bike & maintenance course.

"The course teaches Airmen how to take care of a bike, change a tire, shift gears, and adjust the brakes," Said Staff Sgt. Isaac Rossow, 355th Maintenance Operations Squadron quality assurance inspector and instructor at Outdoor Recreation. "It is all just very basic stuff."

The class is designed to be beneficial for all different skill levels, from beginner to advanced riders.

After an individual takes the course and is ready to test the techniques, there are many places in the local area to put them to the test. Sergeant Rossow recommends going to Fantasy Island or Mt. Lemon for challenging trails.

Available for rental are mountain bikes for $15 per day, street bikes for $12 per day, or elliptigos for $25 per day. Each rental requires a $50 deposit.

"Outdoor Rec put this program together for the fitness aspect of the new year, with people coming in for their new year's resolutions." Rossow said.

Anyone interested in renting a bike, or looking to take a class, can get more information from Outdoor Recreation by calling (520) 228-3736. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
