Volunteers needed for base play Published Feb. 14, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Saphfire Cook 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The Culture of Responsible Choices is in need of volunteers for their upcoming play "The Nerd". Volunteers are needed for their stage crew. Members would be responsible for such things as lighting, sound, and building and designing sets. The production is a comedy set in the late 1970's and involves two Vietnam War veterans. The main character, an architect and former G.I., feels his life is stuck in a rut, but an unexpected visit from a fellow former G. I. shakes things up. When the guest takes "overstaying his welcome" to a whole new level, hi-jinks abound as the architect and his friends develop a scheme to evict the visitor. "We are looking for individuals who are familiar with construction to help build our set pieces and we need people for set-up and tear-down crews," said Tech. Sgt. Katie Neely, CoRC vice president. "The dates the building crew will be needed are to be decided. Those should be available by Feb 17. The set-up and tear-down crew would need to be available during the afternoon on March 1 for set-up and again during the afternoon on March 4 to tear down." "The Nerd" was written by American playwright Larry Shue in 1981. It was first performed on Broadway in 1987 and has been put on in all 50 states. Available candidates can contact Sergeant Neeley at katie.neeley@dm.af.mil or Cindy Blue at cynthia.blue@dm.af.mil to volunteer. The Culture of Responsible Choices is an Airmen-driven initiative that helps provide positive off-duty alternatives and helps foster a precedent of good decision-making.
