Struck by the Thunderbolt
Richard Brunt, 59, touches a memorial plaque, located in Heritage Park at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., March 5, 2016, which honors Captain Patrick B. Olson, who died on Feb. 27,1991, while trying to land a heavily damaged OA-10 during Operation Desert Storm. Brunt, who was Olson's crew chief, now works as a technician at the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group, or the "Boneyard" at D-M AFB, removing parts from decommissioned OA-10s to build inventories used by active A-10 Thunderbolt squadrons for maintaining their aircraft.
