Members of the 48th Rescue Squadron will unveil a memorial pedestal and tribute wall June 9 here to honor two fallen heroes who lost their lives in southeastern Afghanistan June 9, 2010.

Tech. Sgt. Michael Flores and Senior Airman Benjamin White, both pararescuemen assigned to the 48th RQS, paid the ultimate sacrifice when their HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter, 'Pedro 66,' crashed. They were the first two Airmen from D-M who died in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The memorial pedestal features a large, engraved brass tribute to the Airmen with their faces embossed into the placard. The tribute wall will showcase painted pictures of the Airmen.

The event will feature a yet-to-be-determined guest speaker and will also include closing remarks from senior leadership on a day marking the one-year anniversary of the crash.

Media interested in covering the event must RSVP with the 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office by calling (520) 228-3406 no later than noon June 8. Media planning to attend must meet at 8 a.m. at the Swan Gate.
