Media are invited to cover Angel Thunder 2010's earthquake-response scenario April 19 near Cascabel, Ariz.

Military and civilian personnel and resources will participate in a multifaceted exercise mimicking the collaborative personnel recovery efforts needed after an earthquake, like the recent ones in Haiti and Chile.

The scenario will include a parachute jump by combat-search-and-rescue professionals, along with several aircraft and dozens of mock survivors.

The scenario location is about a 2.5-hour drive from Tucson, and the last three-mile stretch requires a four-wheel drive vehicle. Exercise officials will make every effort to provide (ground) transportation to interested local media members, but can't guarantee availability.

Media members are welcome to drive themselves to and from the location (assuming they have a 4x4 vehicle to utilize). The scenario will begin at about 11:30 a.m. and will end at about 3:30 p.m.

Interested media should RSVP by 10 a.m. Friday, April 16, and plan on departing the Tucson area by 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 19. To RSVP, please call the 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office at 228-3406 or e-mail jacob.richmond@dm.af.mil.

About Angel Thunder...

Personnel recovery is an Air Force service core function. Angel Thunder is designed to simulate a comprehensive government response to isolated citizens. It echoes the warrior ethos, "I will never leave a fallen comrade," and is the closest people can get to experiencing a holistic personnel recovery response without being in an actual rescue situation.

Angel Thunder began in 2006 as a local endeavor, and its success resonated throughout the PR community. Now an ACC-sponsored event, Angel Thunder integrates sister services and numerous state, national, multinational and interagency assets focused on the rescue mission and saving lives.
