DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- Effective July 6, 2026 at 6 a.m., Davis-Monthan Air Force Base’s South Wilmot Gate will be open to all traffic.
Reconstruction of the South Wilmot Gate began in 2024 to increase security and efficiency at the installation gates by expanding capacity for contractors and commercial deliveries. The new gate, located off East Valencia Road and South Wilmot Road south of base, includes a state-of-the-art inspection facility to streamline rising commercial delivery volumes and redirect heavy truck traffic to the south side of the installation.
"We are grateful for the patience of our Tucson neighbors and our base personnel during this two-year construction project," said Col. Jose Cabrera, 355th Wing commander. "This new gate is a major quality-of-life upgrade for our Airmen and their families. By significantly reducing daily commute times and streamlining commercial deliveries, we are getting our people to work and home to their families, safer and faster."
The North Wilmot Gate will close to all inbound and outbound traffic beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026. Craycroft Gate will remain open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and Swan Gate will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
This effort was designed to ease traffic for all personnel working on the base, while mitigating traffic backups in the local community and its busier intersections connected to Davis-Monthan.
