D-M is holding a POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony at the Pima Air and Space Museum on Sept. 18, at 3p.m. This is a free event and open to the public.
The guest speaker will be Col. (ret) Thomas H. Kirk, Jr., a former commander of the 357th Tactical Fighter Squadron at D-M and five-year Prisoner of War. On October 28, 1967, Colonel Kirk's F-105 was hit by anti-aircraft fire over Hanoi, North Vietnam. With his ship engulfed in flames, he was forced to parachute from the plane. Upon landing, he was captured immediately and spent five and a-half years as a Prisoner of War at the infamous "Hanoi Hilton" prison camp. Several other POWs from Tucson will be in attendance with their memorabilia and photos on display.
The Pima Air and Space Museum is located at 6000 E Valencia Rd, Tucson, AZ 85706.
