Elementary school children will tour the D-M 16.4 megawatt solar array here and learn about clean energy Oct. 22 at 10:45 a.m.

The solar array tour is part of Air Force Energy Action month, a campaign to educate Airmen how to maximize their energy efficiency and mission effectiveness.

The D-M array is the largest solar array on a DoD installation and provides 35 percent of the base's electricity requirements, reducing base utilities cost by an average of $500,000 annually.

The Air Force is the largest consumer of energy in the federal government and therefore is working to reduce energy consumption through various initiatives including Energy Action Month with a stated goal to increase its renewable energy consumption to 25 percent by 2025.

Media wishing to attend should contact the 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office at 520-228-3207 or 355wgpa@af.mil by 4:30 p.m. Oct. 21.

Show time for the tour will be 10:30 a.m. at the Swan Gate on Oct 22.
