'Hero's Day' to offer special needs citizens their own mini Open House Published April 1, 2014 By 010414 DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- Nearly 500 local individuals with disabilities or special needs will be brought to the flight line Friday, April 11 - the day before D-M's Open House begins to watch the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds practice their routine. The event, dubbed "Heroes Day," was organized to accommodate members of the local community who would enjoy the open house demonstrations but might not be physically able to deal with the extensive walking and large crowds. "We provide them an opportunity to enjoy the Air Show without all the chaos and a little more VIP treatment, much like a Hero deserves!" said MSgt Gutierrez, the D-M volunteer who coordinated the event. Media members are invited to cover the event from start to finish, and will be given the opportunity to interview event organizers and attendees following the Thunderbirds' practice performance. Media interested in attending must RSVP to the 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office at 228-3406 or email 355WGPA@us.af.mil no later than 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10th. Showtime at the Craycroft Gate Visitors' Center will be 12:30pm Friday, April 11.
